The importance of exercise for dogs

In recent years we have heard again and again that dogs need to exercise. The television programs say it, the coach tells us and many times also our veterinarian. But do we really know why it is important for our dog to exercise? Do you know how much time is indicated, the intensity and the right place to exercise your dog?
Exercise is an essential element in the quality of life of our dog. Adult dogs need to burn calories to prevent overweight. When a dog is deprived of the opportunity to exercise its body and mind, it is very likely that it channels excess energy through undesirable behaviors, such as starting to bite any item it is found with. If your dog is a destroyer to the fifth power, he is surely finding ways to release his energy and probably does not know how to channel that accumulated energy.
Each dog has its exercise needs; there will be dogs that with 3 or 4 walks a week of 30 to 45 minutes will be enough, others with 20 minutes a day. Sure some more need an intense exercise 50 minutes a day. If you notice that your dog is calm, he sleeps between 16 and 18 hours a day, surely the amount of exercise is adequate. If your dog sleeps a little and you see him wandering around your house from one place to another and can not stay put for prolonged periods, he probably lacks both physical and mental exercise.
If your dog is of a giant size you should take care not to exercise with much intensity as it could damage the bones and joints. With the puppies we have to be careful and not perform an intense session, the best will be 3 or 4 sessions a day with a very short duration. Dogs are like us: they need to get fit little by little, with this we will improve their physical condition and avoid injuries in muscles and joints. It is important that you do not teach jumping to your puppy until he has completed his first year because it could be seriously damaged.
From 9 months, dogs can exercise almost unlimited, the best would be on grassy floors but if you have no other choice, nothing happens and hard floors are used. Do not forget to interact with your dog while they walk, play, caress and have fun together.
